about Michael Young

Hi, my name is Michael Young! I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from San Francisco State University and have over 10 years of experience teaching lessons to students of all ages and backgrounds. Today, I teach private music lessons in Japantown, San Jose at my home studio.

I teach a wide variety of instruments including guitar, piano, voice, ukulele, bass guitar, trumpet, and saxophone.

My Teaching Style

My approach is centered around creating a customized curriculum tailored to each student’s unique needs and learning style. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your skills, I want to help you achieve your musical goals.

Some students are excited to progress in a structured way, learning from a method book or learning a new song each lesson. Others find that tedious and prefer to include elements of songwriting and improvisation as the core of their learning. My goal is to find where each student thrives and build the curriculum around their preferred learning methods.

I believe that the student should set the pace and the direction of their musical learning. I want my students to be challenged and grow as musicians while having an enjoyable experience with lessons and a thriving musical life.
